To the Dean of Graduate Studies at SAIC ~ Wednesday, 14 March 2018

You my friend are worthless
as a pencil pusher
powerless bureaucrat

Or you help your favorites
and watch while others sink
or swim laughing with joy

Under no pretenses
does schadenfreude play
a role in your art school

Mirth at the suffering
of others without funds
money to make the grade

Your tuition kills me
I wish I'd never come
but then I get to write

Frank lines about people
who don't care about me
foreigners like myself

Rely on nobody
they know they cannot trust
Americans to care

In God We Trust they say
on the one dollar bill
hidden in back a toy

Entertainingly placed
to fool no one in lies
our government will tell

Nobody notices
what is most obvious
a truth they cannot yet

Deny or face as real
that God is a fiction
none will accept despite

Arguments of logic
prove equally nothing
resolves transcendent wealth

Remember who I am
my friend for you are dust
under my feet I dare

End up kicking away
whether you help or not
for bureaucrats I cast

Diligently like stones
across a lake to watch
them skip to sink or swim

Under no condition
do I accept your faith
to help resolve my debt

Simply forgotten gone
out of sight out of mind
attrition cannot last

Talent will boldly face
your desire to displace

students out on a limb
