Witness ~ Friday, 13 July 2018

Huntington Beach all fun in the sun if you run
under the fading smoke of a black starter's gun
no one knows that he won just one race why he left
town neither shaken nor stirred but crazy and deft
in cunning as a fox quick and light on his feet
no one knows that he runs with Satan on the street
greet him as he passes with his pepper white beard
tell him he looks just like Santa and that's not weird
only he doesn't care what other people say
no one knows that he knows his place along the way

Broken inside over the years covered with tears
each pillow he snuggles as he sleeps all his fears
answered like prayers by God by way of the spirit
chased out of paradise by demons without wit
haunted by the Dirty South he runs from Hyde Park

as the weather permits even a lightning spark
leaves him laughing at God if he dare kill his son
laugh yourself if you meet Jesus your eyes undone

for what you see you know is a man nothing more
unless he flips the switch to reveal an old bore
no one knows that he lives among them full of rage

if you envision God and his son on a stage
no one knows that he burns bridges as his story

take the kingdom of God in his grace and glory
humble pie we all eat for mistaken beliefs
even if we admit wearing our dirty briefs

sit in church on Sunday to show you have great faith
unless you are haunted and tested by a wraith
no one knows that he works miracles as he sits

in pain and agony on the throne as he shits
from irritable bowel syndrome even he cries

yes Jesus weeps sheds tears on the toilet the lies
only he knows the mind of God his own father
under an umbrella but why even bother

ride the lightning Jesus calls out to the thunder
under storm clouds to praise mistakes as we blunder
no one knows that he sees beyond the veil of time
