Explain the inexplicable, the war,
xenophobia, genocide and race,
practical philosophy, its failure,
lapses in judgment, words underscore
atrocities, violence as vapid
ineffable acts, so routine and base
normal citizens took part in the cure.
Western Europe and Far Eastern Asia
obliterated by fire bombs, rapid
release of energy, the atom bomb,
literally invented global fear
decades after the end, the last pogrom.
Words cannot explain within a school year
all the events, murders, euthanasia,
relatively healthy people just died.
Travesties of justice and victories
written down to observe our histories,
orders to commit crimes, arrested, tried.
